9/30/09: This Wednesday kicked off the new Kaio Blocks (which was awesome, by the way). The conclusion of “Schooled” was about School fights and Unusual Miracles. Pastor Jeff starts in Acts 19:11. Imagine a fight where 7 dudes come running out screaming, not only beat up really bad, but also naked. One guy walks out behind them… someone you don’t want to mess with, right? The man was demon possessed, which was something of an epidemic during that time in Ephesus. So much that people were making a living practicing sorcery and magic to try and “send out” these demons. This particular story is about a man named Sceva and his 7 sons who had heard that the name of Jesus was powerful and included it in their incantation (btw, this is a word Pastor Jeff doesn’t like, lol). They said (verse 13) “I command you in the name of Jesus, whom Paul preaches, to come out!” But something unexpected happened in verse 14-16, “… the evil spirit replied, “I know Jesus, and I know Paul, but who are you?” Then the man with the evil spirit leaped on them, overpowered them, and attacked them with such violence that they fled from the house, naked and battered.” “I know Jesus, and I know Paul… (What a list to be on!)… but who are you?” In our daily routines and situations, are we being “sent out” when we should be doing “the sending”? This story starts with people wrongly using the name of Jesus to get power (and make a profit) and ends with many people becoming believers and “… the name of the Lord Jesus was greatly honored…” (verse 17).
