Are you one of those people who think often of where you are going and how you got to where you are? I know that I am. There has been a verse that I have been returning to time and time again this past year; its 1 Corinthians 11:1 and it says: “And you should imitate me, just as I imitate Christ.”(NLT) Paul is simply saying here; let me navigate you as Christ navigates me. I used to think this was a scary statement to make to someone else. (put your life direction in my hands please) Now I know that is a little overboard, but you get the mental picture. It is a scary thought, to give someone an open invitation to watch your life for the benefit of their life. (I’m just not sure how healthy I am for others at times) But then I came across the words of Jesus in John chapter 8 verse 14. Jesus is being questioned by the Pharisees on the testimony He has just given about Himself. His reply is remarkable; “For I know where I came from and where I am going…” WOW. (and no I do not mean World of Warcraft) First off, Jesus is letting these guys know that they need to step back because no one can give a more accurate testimony about the Light of the world than, “The Light of the World”. This one verse turned the brightest light on in my faith. Jesus above all knew his starting and finishing point. With concrete navigation like that, why would I follow anyone or anything else? As well, it makes Paul’s declaration a lot less intimidating. “Follow me asĀ follow Christ”! There is no doubt that I want to be wherever He is. Will you allow Christ to navigate your life, so that you might bless someone else by navigating them? (1 Corinthians 11:1) He knows the way!
