To live a life that would cause sudden change and impact the human endeavor in a way that turns their society towards a loving God. Marxist revolutionary Che Guevara said this about revolutionaries: “At the risk of seeming ridiculous, let me say that the true revolutionary is guided by a great feeling of love…. We must strive every day so that this love of living humanity will be transformed into actual deeds, into acts that serve as examples, as a moving force.” Now; I don’t support Che and his views, but what a great thought to apply to my faith. That I would strive everyday so that this love for my Jesus would spill over into the humanity that surrounds me and that transformation would continue in my life and begin in others. How will you chose to revolutionize your community and more importantly the people within that community?

“My purpose in writing is simply this: that you who believe in God’s Son will know beyond the shadow of a doubt that you have eternal life, the reality and not the illusion.”

This could be considered part 2 of yesterdays post on “Abracadabra”. Not all illusions fascinate me; some are dumb. (just saying) I must also say that I like the one in the picture above. Anyways, in 1 John 5 our author is talking about the power of our faith in Jesus. (vs.4) When I read down to verse 13 in The Message; I was challenged with not only the way I look at the gift Jesus has given, but the way in which I now live out that gift of eternal life. I have to be honest; there are a lot of times that I walk through the day and approach people, creating an illusion. The illusion of a redeemed, conquering, overcoming life! I put on the face instead of realizing the reality of the gift that God has given to me and that it is available to all. Lets face it; everyone will stop and check out an illusion for a moment because it looks cool. People cling to reality though! And the reality is that God gives the gift of forgiveness of sins and eternal life through his Son Jesus. May I walk in that reality everyday so that it gives others Jesus to cling to and not some illusion to simply stare at!

I must admit that I love to watch magicians do their thing. As a matter of fact I was watching David Blaine last night and was mesmerized and terrified by what he was doing. The disappearing acts are the ones that truly amaze me. The ability to take a real item and make it simply….. disappear! What’s sad is the fact that I have performed like a magician in showing Christ’s love before. I have made his love disappear. Check out 1 John 3:16-17:

1 John 3:16-17 (The Message)
This is how we’ve come to understand and experience love: Christ sacrificed his life for us. This is why we ought to live sacrificially for our fellow believers, and not just be out for ourselves. If you see some brother or sister in need and have the means to do something about it but turn a cold shoulder and do nothing, what happens to God’s love? It disappears. And you made it disappear.

Switching gears, many of us have asked the question of “why does God allow evil things to happen?” I have always given the patent answer of – “we are a people who have been given free will and have been born into a sinful nature at the same time.” There for we chose to do good or do evil. (and some chose evil) Now, I must admit that there are questions left in my mind with an answer like that, but after reading 1 John 3:16-17 I have a different question to ask. The question is; why do I allow evil to continue? (Especially if God has given me the means to help in a situation) I don’t know about you, but I want to leave the magic acts to David Blaine and keep the very real love of our God in the open for all to see!

We payed homage to Baywatch, taught some biblical lifeguard principles and saw three students accept Christ as Lord and Savior. For those students that were here; accept the risk that is involved when trying to save a life. Don’t forget that there should be a lot of love involved and you are putting your reputation and spiritual status on the line. Then, remember the main objective of the lifeguard; Save Lives. Let us all take a hold of ever opportunity to share our story and the story of Jesus with others who don’t know so that “none should perish.”

5 Each time the message was this: ‘Turn from the evil road you are traveling and from the evil things you are doing. Only then will I let you live in this land that the Lord gave to you and your ancestors forever. 6 Do not provoke my anger by worshiping idols you made with your own hands. Then I will not harm you. 7 “But you would not listen to me,” says the Lord. “You made me furious by worshiping idols you made with your own hands, bringing on yourselves all the disasters you now suffer.

Do you remember your first attempt at pottery in Jr. High school? I do and it was horrible. I made an orange bowl/jar/ashtray thingy. It sits in my office as I write this, and let me just say that it is something that only my mother would say she is proud of. (I hope that she has repented of that lie) Anyways; that piece of pottery sat on a shelf to be adorned by my mom for many years. I was even proud of my accomplishment. Why? Because I had made something with my own hands. Though very innocent in those Jr. High days it can be very devastating for me today. Things I do today in ministry and family can be appreciated, but should not be worshiped. Jeremiah is warning the people on behalf of God to turn from worshiping idols that they have made with their hands and worship Him. The reality is that I am capable of constructing idols with my own hands. (worshiping the accomplished work) This takes praise from God and is applied to my life. 1 Corinthians 10:31 advises us in this way: “So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” Worship God in all that you do; not worship what you do or have done.

On rare occasions Stacey will call me and open up the conversation with; “Do you want the good news or the bad news first.” My thought is, can I just have the good news and you keep the other for yourself. The last time she called me an opened up with that statement, our youngest child was dancing around with a baseball bat and slammed it into a flat screen T.V. that didn’t even belong to us. Talk about bad news! What was my boy doing dancing anyways? I understand he should be holding a bat; he is a boy! (no offense to you guys who dance) Well, on with the point; We get bad news sometimes. We do not have to fear bad news. If we faithfully serve God and uphold His commands, we can trust that he will take care of us. Psalm 112:7 says so: “He will have no fear of bad news; his heart is steadfast, trusting in the LORD. ” (I encourage you to take a look at the whole chapter) I love how the NLT puts it: “they confidently trust the Lord to care for them.” Do you? I pray that when you get news of a broken relationship, that you didn’t make the cut, mom/dad has lost their job or any other potential bad news that it would not shake you; but you would look to the Lord confidently knowing that He cares and will act on your behalf!

Tonight we welcomed our freshman to Kaio and I must say that I am impressed with them. We challenged our group to live their life in such a way that it draws people to Jesus. In the 12th chapter of John there is a great example of this – 9 “When all the people heard of Jesus’ arrival, they flocked to see him and also to see Lazarus, the man Jesus had raised from the dead. 10 Then the leading priests decided to kill Lazarus, too, 11 for it was because of him that many of the people had deserted them and believed in Jesus. Because of Lazarus’ testimony of what Jesus did in his life, people were drawn to Jesus. Can the same be said of you? Does your life draw others to Christ?

I can remember family members as well as my own dad saying this to me and my brother. The point was that no one could see the the t.v. for the fact that we were in the way. This same thought came to mind as I read John 12:24 – “I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.” It is here that Jesus was predicting his death; saying that he must give his life up so that all others would have the opportunity for life. (eternally) He was willing to have his life removed to point the world to his Father. Are you willing to sacrifice? Are you willing to die to self so that others may see/experience Jesus? Its hard for people to see Jesus when we stand in the way! Don’t forget – “Your daddy is not a window maker”

John 11:16 – “Then Thomas said to the rest of the disciples, “Let us also go, that we may die with him.”

I love the tattoo that Jesse James has on the palm of his hand that reads, “pay up”. I can imagine that a custom bike, car or anything else made by him would cost you a good little penny. So pay up is right. Anyone who seeks his services would expect it too. (your getting the best) It is no different for us who have sought the service of Jesus. (Luke 14:27-29, count the cost) Thomas and the rest of the disciples understood this. Before Thomas makes this statement in verse 16, Jesus is telling the disciples that he wants to make a trip back to Judea and see his sick friend. The disciples try and convince him not to go back saying; “a short while ago the Jews tried to stone you, and yet you want to go back there?” (verse 8) So here is Thomas, most often remembered as the doubter, because he doubted Jesus’ resurrection;(John 20:23); demonstrating courage. They all knew the dangers that stood before them in returning, but they were all willing to return; even though it appeared they might have to die with Jesus. There are unknown dangers in doing God’s work and it is wise to consider the cost. Are you ready to pay up? Thomas was!
